Thanks guys! Does anyone know why, some of these surfrider's have the vans surfboard as a heel tag, and some have the vans skateboard as a heel tag? Also why some come in the photo collage box and some come in a GR box? Was it a matter of 1st or 2nd edition? or did it depend on where it was sold? ps. SHOEHEAD627, i'll be on the lookout!

Erwin, nice set completion there! It's always fun completing a set.
Daniel: Not sure why there's two different heel tabs, but notice that the pics are different? Perhaps one was a release, under a different series, along with the other colorways that we've seen them in? We do know that the surfboard tab represents the Vans Surf line, but we just don't know the origins behind them, and there's not much on Google about them, either.
VIA HYPEBEAST:
Vans collaborated with the finest photographers from Surfing Magazine to capture six of the most popular surf breaks from around the nation and design them onto canvas sneakers. The six different models will include famous breaks from places like Huntington Beach, Steamer Lane, Blacks, Off the Wall, Montauk Long Island and the Sebastian Inlet. In addition, Vans is donating $10,000 to the Surfrider Foundation and $5 from each pair of shoes sold. Look for this Surfrider Foundation Era collection to hit Vans stores and surf shops around the country soon.

The pictures are different because the teal colorway is a different location, but look at the picture below, same shoe as mine, same pictures, different heel tag and box.

Maybe they produced them at more than one factory? Maybe they ran out and used the GR heel tab and boxes instead...or like mentioned earlier...a second release. Hell, even some of you guys on here got a standard box with your Mike Carrolls or Old Skools.

They probably did just run out of materials, that sounds like the most logical explanation, but I guess we'll never know
