I know it's a little early to tell, but how do you guys think these will do?

I feel like people who are into "athletic" shoes won't even give Vans a thought. These could be popular with those of us who love the Classics and will find things to like in this new line (or not). I just can't see these converting consumers who aren't already avid Vans supporters.

Anyone know why Vans is even risking this? Are they not doing so well?

We (vans) are doing just fine. We have ran a comp increase over the last 8 years in sales. The only retail company to do so............. It's mostly to cut of Nike from owning the market share. Nike likes to buy the athletes, Vans has history.

Dae, I feel the same way. People forget how loyal the Jordan-based Nike consumers are. Those guys usually can't see allure in Vans at all because their definition of Vans rests with what they've seen come out of the Vans store. Same goes with almost all mature, grown up fans of Nike who use Nike's runners and trainers, especially the people who buy all their gear at the mall.

I feel like Vans could beat Nike, if they invested in it enough, but they'd really have to try hard, and I mean a lot of testing proof, advertising of such, and most importantly, Vans-sponsored athletes .

^ They can only cash out on athletes like skateboarders, bmxers, surfers, and snowboarders?

Nike is a giant already covering pretty every sport there is (or maybe not), but they cannot challenge Nike's marketing.
