I thought that the white lace eyelets looked kinda "general release"-ish, and didn't blend in very well with the look of the shoe, so I decided to remove the eyelets today. I will be putting some black ones in soon, but it should look the same. What do you all think?
I took a small pair of needle nose pliers, and a pair of dikes (wire cutters), and from the back side of the eyelet, I bent the flanges inward, from all sides of the circle, and then took the small needle nose pliers and pushed it out. Then the back side washer just pulls right off, because there's no flange holding that part on. Super easy, once you get the feel for how to get the dikes under the edge of the eyelet flange. You just got to get enough of the tip of the dikes to catch the edge, so it can crush it in. It's a super soft metal, so it bends really easily.
I thought about that too, but I wonder if it will stretch the leather too much? You gotta wear them pretty loose, to avoid the holes becoming oval shaped!
Hmmm, I've never had much issue with my sk8-hi's lace-holes getting stretched out. It's usually only the topmost lace-hole that shows anything like that after a while. These seem a bit bigger though, so it may become more of an issue. I'd say go for the metal eyelets, though! I assume you've already got 'em, so might as well go ahead and do it.
