My local store had 2 copies. 1 randomly put in the store and the other in a case for a silent auction later that day. Bummed I couldn't grab that one or the Social Distortion release.rocketgoof wrote:Nice Luis! I missed record store day and all the shops around me are out of the DEVO release... Super bummed about that! I had all plans of going but just didn't end up having the time. Might run down to my favorite store this afternoon just to see what's left anyway. I doubt there's any of the stuff that interested me left, though.

Re: Other Pickups
I like seeing that all of you guys are part of this same punk subculture, that I have almost no clue about. What is "Record Store Day"? Where do you guys all get this info from, being that one of you is in Poland, the other 2 in California, and another in Florida? I'm fascinated, haha.

Hardcore/Punk is really like one huge family, we help each other whenever we can. Doesn't really matter if you want a place to sleep after a gig or you're looking for a record - somebody will always help you out.
Damn, grimmsmisfitsauction.com isn't working anymore. I'll see if I can find John's e-mail.
You can also try discogs.com

Re: Other Pickups
I think just having an awesome local record store helps as well! Most of the record store day releases aren't even related to the punk genre, but there's enough that it can attract everybody. For some reason I always end up missing out on the day of, but this is the first year that I wasn't able to pick up what I really wanted. I did end up getting the James Brown and MC5/Afrikaa Bambaataa 7"'s though! Just gotta try to win the DEVO record on ebay... And I wanna at least hear the 2012 mix of "London Calling."

Re: Other Pickups
Guam - Record Store Day isn't just about punk, it's about getting people to support local record stores. It's getting bigger, but in short, labels release (and rerelease) lots of limited and special-edition vinyls on this day, to help support the endangered species that is the local, independent record store. It spans all genres, all styles - it's all about supporting local, and drumming up business so a lot of cool places don't have to close their doors.

Re: Other Pickups
Oh word, I get it. I'm down with that, since when I started DJing, that's all we had were record stores, to get our music. I had great relationships with my local spots. There's just something special about hanging out in a record store, and grabbing a stack of records, and taking them to the listening station, and oh, I know the feeling when you come across a song or record that you've been looking for forever. The internet changed the game! Every song is available to everyone. This all reminds me to go and take more pics of some of my vinyl collection. On Instagram, I have this lil' thing where I post up older vinyl covers, and hashtag it #vinyladay, but realistically, I post up mostly on #throwbackthursday
. I amassed a large collection over the years, but it was around 06 when my uncle called me up and asked me to come and pick up all of his vinyl that he's had since he was a DJ back in the mid to late 80s and early 90s. He's my uncle James, James Sumbi, married to my dad's cousin, and you may know him as J. Sumbi from the Freestyle Fellowship, a Los Angeles local hip-hop group, which included Aceyalone, Micah 9, Self Jupiter, and a few other homies. If you know, then you know. He was Tha Nonce's dj, and even got a shout out at the end of "Mix Tapes". I never knew about underground hip-hop until after I got into djing. My uncle James sold me his 1200s back in like 99, when I told him that I was starting to DJ with my friends. Little did I know how much involved he was with hip-hop, and just the early years of it all. All of his vinyl that he gave me were original pressings, and not reissues like I've always bought. People would kill to have my hip-hop and soul vinyl collection. Just thought I'd share my story about vinyl

Re: Other Pickups
I just picked up a black one thanks to your post. My question is are the straps that go across the top velcro (mine have large plastic clips to connect instead of full velcro)? Also does your come with a cellphone case for the backpack straps? curious because i might return mine and search for the olive one.rockinobey wrote:Joel Tudor duffle II bag,.... checked out the vans store at a downtown mall.
and found these on sale for $49.99+tax. Not bad at all. New bag for traveling.

I've always been jealous of people with a large vinyl collection. I've picked up a few 7"s here and there, but never anything extensive, and it's always been for collecting purposes. A buddy of mine DJs here and there, and he's got a great collection of punk rock and hip hop and soul / motown records... It's a constant reminder that I need to get serious about it.
Actually, I was discussing record store day with my wife last night, and I think we agreed on a place I could set up a turntable, and where I could put some of the vinyl our parents have... her dad with his beatles and 60s rock, mine with his clash and 70s punk... only thing left to do is convince them to part with it!

Re: Other Pickups
the straps that go across the top for the olives are velcro, no i did not get a cellphone case for the backpack straps. i like the black one as well but when i saw both at the store the black one collected so much dust and the olive wasnt noticeable at all. overall they are both nice and its a steal for the price. hope this helps.MF HectoOR wrote:I just picked up a black one thanks to your post. Not this one. This board came out recently this month. Now that you mentioned it I wish they would have released a board along with the sk8 mids!DJGuamstyles wrote:Wasn't that a UBS exclusive board too Luis?
